Walgett Shire Council is a local government on the border of New South Wales and Queensland that provides services to Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Collarenebri and the surrounding rural areas. The Shire covers an area of 22,000 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 6,000. 

Found near the junction of the Namoi River and Barwon River, Walgett is a town full of history, tranquillity and adventure. A former paddle-steamer port, it is the northern gateway to the Darling River Run, a fascinating journey that takes in stunning landscapes and rich history.

Just under an hour's drive north, the Lightning Ridge area offers plenty of adventure, history and Outback majesty. From fossicking for opals to admiring art in an underground cave, there's something for everyone in this unique and colourful region include relaxing in naturally-heated springs, fishing on the Barwon or Namoi Rivers, and so much more.

POSITIONS VACANT

Casual Lifeguards - Walgett & Collarenebri

Walgett Shire Council is seeking Casual Lifeguards for our Aquatic Facilities, for the 2024/25 Season.

Our lifeguards supervise patrons within the pool environment to assist in preventing downing.

Lifeguards are also responsible for:
•    Maintaining public safety
•    The smooth running of the swimming pool
•    Compliance with WHS standards
•    Carrying out maintenance of amenities, grounds and pool infrastructure
•    Customer service and sales   

Suitable applicants will be able to work independently as well as part of a team, have a high level of customer service, a willingness to work on weekends.

You will also need the following qualifications, but if you don't have them yet, it's ok - we will train you:

1.    Current Royal Life Saving Society Lifeguard Licence 
2.    Current Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate, including oxygen use 
3.    First Aid

Remuneration is based on Grade 2 subject to qualifications and competencies outlined in the position description. 

The role is casual, with hours of work spread across a 7 day week, noting that the pool opening hours will depend on staff availability, but will generally be 

Walgett:

Weekdays: 6am - 8am and 3pm - 6pm

Weekends: 12pm - 6pm

Collarenebri:

Weekdays: 6am - 8am and 3pm - 6pm

Weekends: 12pm - 6pm

During school holidays the hours may be extended.
