About the role:

Walgett Shire Council is seeking an outstanding Executive Assistant to provide high-level administrative support to the General Manager and the Mayor. This is a pivotal role within Council, requiring a proactive, organised, and politically astute individual who can manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and maintain the strictest confidence.

You will be the backbone of the executive office—managing calendars, coordinating communications, preparing agendas, taking minutes, and supporting key governance functions. This is more than just an administrative role: you will be the key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, helping to direct the daily operations of the office and ensure deadlines are met and decisions are actioned.

With a strong sense of initiative, the successful candidate will confidently take ownership of tasks, solve problems independently, and drive improvements in systems and processes. You will also provide executive secretariat support for Council and its committees, ensuring accurate records and professional conduct of meetings in accordance with statutory obligations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and adaptable professional with exceptional organisational skills, a calm and capable manner, and a genuine desire to contribute to a community-focused organisation.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience in high-level executive or personal assistant roles, preferably supporting senior executives, councillors, or elected representatives.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare agendas, minutes and correspondence to a professional standard.
  • Discretion, confidentiality, and political awareness in handling sensitive matters.
  • A proactive and agile mindset with excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes.
  • Confidence in building positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic records management systems.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and the ability to provide calm leadership within a busy and dynamic executive office.

At Walgett Shire Council, we understand that not every candidate will meet every criterion, and that is perfectly fine—your passion and potential matter most to us.
