Walgett Shire Council proudly serves a diverse and unique region in the heart of outback New South Wales. About the role:
Walgett Shire Council is looking towards the future, building a strong foundation of talent to meet the evolving needs of our organisation and to give back to the community. As part of this vision, Council is recruiting trainees, apprentices, and cadets across multiple disciplines. You will be provided with paid time during work hours to complete your assignments and attend formal training sessions, ensuring you can focus on both your practical and theoretical learning. Council will cover all VET course fees and any required travel, offering you the support needed to succeed in your course and achieve your career goals. Assistance towards university fees will be discussed with the successful candidate.
As a Cadet Civil Engineer, you will work across Council’s civil works and infrastructure services, gaining practical experience in planning, design, and project delivery while pursuing formal studies in engineering. Whether you are already studying or just beginning your journey, we will work with you to determine the best pathway forward. This role is designed to provide real-world experience in asset management, maintenance, and civil construction projects, giving you the skills and knowledge to advance your career in civil engineering. About you:
- A strong interest in civil engineering and a commitment to learning and professional growth.
- Currently enrolled in or willing to commence an Advanced Diploma or Bachelor of Engineering at an Australian institution.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse complex issues and apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage effectively with stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, enabling you to balance study commitments and work responsibilities effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn and use engineering-related software.
- A proactive and adaptable attitude with a focus on delivering quality outcomes in a professional environment.
- A current Australian Class C Driver Licence (P1 or above).
