About the role:

The Urban Maintenance Worker – Water and Wastewater is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining and operating water supply and sewerage infrastructure across Walgett Shire. Based in Collarenebri, this position ensures the safe, reliable delivery of essential water services to the community. Key tasks include routine inspections, repairs, water sampling, sewer maintenance, meter reading, and assisting in emergency responses. The role also involves operating a range of tools and machinery and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of work sites and surrounding areas.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a strong work ethic, practical problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and teamwork. Experience in water and wastewater systems is essential, along with a Construction White Card, a current driver’s licence, and a First Aid certificate. With a focus on compliance, environmental standards, and community service, the role offers a rewarding pathway to contribute meaningfully to public health and infrastructure reliability in a regional setting.

About you:

You are a practical, safety-focused individual with hands-on experience in water, wastewater, or general utility maintenance. Comfortable working outdoors and using a variety of tools and equipment, you take pride in doing the job right and keeping essential systems running smoothly. You have a strong understanding of safe work practices, are physically capable, and can manage multiple tasks under supervision while maintaining attention to detail.

Reliable, motivated, and a team player, you communicate well and contribute positively to a collaborative work environment. You hold a Construction White Card, a current driver’s licence, and First Aid certification, and you’re ready to respond to after-hours emergencies when needed. With a strong work ethic and a proactive mindset, you're looking to build a meaningful career while supporting the health and wellbeing of your community.
