About the role:
The People and Culture Business Partner plays a pivotal role in delivering strategic and operational human resource support throughout Council. This position collaborates closely with Directors, Managers, and Supervisors to provide comprehensive HR services that align with the Council's goals. As a hands-on professional, you will manage recruitment campaigns, advise on employee relations and employee entitlement matters, and support initiatives aimed at enhancing workforce engagement and wellness. This is a fulltime, permanent position that may be based in either Walgett or Lightning Ridge.
Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-End Recruitment: Oversee the entire recruitment process, from drafting job advertisements to onboarding successful candidates.
- Compliance Assurance: Ensure adherence to employment legislation, the Local Government (State) Award, and internal HR policies.
- Learning and Development: Provide learning and development support that align with internal capability needs and individual employee goals.
- Performance Management: Support leaders in managing performance improvement processes and provide coaching to build performance management skills.
- Engagement Initiatives: Drive programs that enhance employee engagement and workplace culture, including wellness and recognition activities.
- Workforce Planning: Contribute to strategic workforce planning to address skill gaps and future capability needs.
- Conflict Resolution: Undertake investigations and support the resolution of grievances, ensuring procedural fairness.
- HR Systems Improvement: Review and enhance HR systems, policies, and processes to improve service delivery and compliance.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate employee records while adhering to privacy and governance standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members to ensure continuity of service across the People & Culture function.
About you:
- Proven experience in generalist HR support, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning.
- Strong understanding of Australian employment legislation with the ability to interpret and apply relevant laws.
- Experience in developing and implementing workforce capability and learning strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare clear reports and documentation.
- High-level interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach and influence at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in a small community setting.
