About the role:
Walgett Shire Council is seeking an experienced Grants Officer (Casual) to provide surge capacity and specialist support to our full time Grants Specialist during peak funding and reporting periods.
Working across the organisation, you will help identify priority funding opportunities, prepare high-quality submissions, and support the end-to-end administration of funded projects, including grant agreements, milestone reporting, compliance requirements and acquittals. The role is practical and delivery focused, requiring the ability to pick up complex project information quickly, work to tight deadlines, and produce clear, persuasive and accurate documentation.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working across multiple projects, can operate with a high level of autonomy, and can add immediate value by strengthening Council’s funding pipeline and ensuring our reporting obligations are met when workloads increase.
About you:
You are a capable and reliable grants professional who can step in during peak periods and deliver outcomes quickly and to a high standard. You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience preparing successful grant or funding submissions in local government, government, not for profit, or other complex organisational environments.
- Strong understanding of government funding programs, eligibility requirements, and grant management obligations (including agreements, milestones and acquittals).
- Excellent writing, editing and research skills, with the ability to produce well structured, accurate submissions under tight timeframes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to liaise professionally with internal project owners and external funding bodies.
- High attention to detail, strong judgement, and a clear commitment to compliance, record keeping and risk awareness.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (particularly Word, Excel, Teams and SharePoint), with experience using grant registers or project tracking systems regarded.
- The ability to work flexibly and autonomously, selecting your working hours by agreement, provided you reliably meet grant deadlines and agreed deliverables.
- Comfort working fully remote, hybrid, or on site, with a willingness to attend in person from time to time (for example, periodic onsite days in Walgett for planning, relationship building and project context, as required).
