About the role:
We are seeking practical, reliable and safety focused people to join our team as Landfill (Tip) Attendants. Positions available in both Walgett and Lightning Ridge on a full-time basis, 38 hours per week, and may require some limited weekend work.
This is an entry level role and previous experience in landfill operations is not essential. The position would suit someone who enjoys working outdoors, dealing with people, and being part of a small team. What matters most is that you are dependable, willing to learn, and able to follow safe work practices.
In this role, you will help with the day-to-day operation of Council’s landfill and waste facilities. Duties will include assisting customers, handling basic cash transactions, keeping the site clean and safe, helping with waste handling and general site operations, and undertaking basic record keeping. Subject to training and competency, the role may also assist with plant operation and other operational duties from time to time. Council will provide training and support to the successful applicant.
About you:
The successful applicant will:
- be willing to learn to drive heavy plant and equipment including garbage trucks, skid steer loaders, front end loaders, compactors, bulldozers, excavators, and tipper trucks.
- be safety-conscious and willing to follow workplace health and safety procedures
- be willing and able to follow instructions, work within timeframes, and contribute effectively to a team
- have a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn and adapt
- understand the importance of public service and take pride in upholding the reputation of the Council and the community
- be reliable, respectful, team-oriented, and able to meet the physical and practical demands of the position.
