About the role:
Council is seeking a capable, practical and safety-focused person to join our team as Team Leader, Waste Services and Quarries.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can operate heavy plant, lead from the front, solve problems on the ground and help keep essential services running safely and efficiently. While experience in landfill, waste or quarry operations would be highly regarded, it is not essential. We are open to applicants from other heavy plant, civil, roads, construction or similar operational backgrounds who can bring strong plant skills, leadership ability and sound judgement.
This is a working team leader position. You will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day delivery of Council’s waste services and quarry operations across the Shire, while also actively undertaking operational work yourself.
The role includes supervising staff, allocating daily tasks, preparing rosters and work plans, operating heavy plant and equipment, monitoring site activities, helping resolve operational issues and ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with Council requirements.
This is a role for someone who can think on their feet, provide practical leadership and keep operations moving in a dynamic outdoor environment.
About you:
The successful applicant will:
- be able to drive heavy plant and equipment, including garbage trucks, skid steer loaders, front end loaders, compactors, bulldozers, excavators, and tipper trucks.
- be able to implement workplace health and safety for you and your team
- be willing and able to follow instructions, work within timeframes, and contribute effectively to a team
- have a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn and adapt
- understand the importance of public service and take pride in upholding the reputation of the Council and the community
- be reliable, respectful, team-oriented, and able to meet the physical and practical demands of the position.
At Walgett Shire Council, we understand that not every candidate will meet every criterion, and that is perfectly fine—your passion and potential matter most to us.
